Cost Accounting Manager - Hybrid - Phoenix- $125-135k plus bonus

The Manufacturing Cost Accounting Manager will oversee all cost accounting activities across our domestic and international manufacturing network. This hybrid role is highly analytical and requires strong communication skills to effectively partner with operations, supply chain, procurement, and senior leadership. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and can translate complex financial data into actionable insights.


Responsibilities

  • Lead all cost accounting functions, including the development and maintenance of standard costs for manufactured products.
  • Analyze manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead) and collaborate with plant teams to identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Review and reconcile inventory balances, including reserves and COGS, ensuring accurate month-end closing.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly cost reports, inventory rollforwards, and variance analyses.
  • Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting cycles with detailed cost inputs and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company accounting policies, and internal controls.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, procurement, and supply chain teams to evaluate cost drivers and promote cost transparency.
  • Communicate cost insights clearly to leadership, supporting data-driven decisions.
  • Support cost analysis for new products, process changes, and capital investments.
  • Lead and develop a small cost accounting team, ensuring proper training, workload management, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive enhancements to cost accounting methods, tools, and reporting processes.
  • Assist with internal and external audits related to cost and inventory accounting.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5-8+ years of progressive cost accounting experience in manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis.
  • Experience with multi-site or international manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and mentor a small, high-performing team.

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA.
  • Experience in global manufacturing or supply chain environments.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
